Her speech, delivered as part of the annual budget announcement, offered a glimpse into India’s future trajectory, particularly in the fields of artificial intelligence, space exploration, and healthcare.
Among the key announcements, President Murmu revealed that citizens aged 70 and above would be entitled to free health insurance. This initiative aims to improve healthcare accessibility for the elderly, a demographic often facing financial and physical barriers to quality medical care. The government’s commitment to public health comes alongside its broader vision of empowering all segments of society.
Highlighting India’s role on the global stage, President Murmu stated that India is setting a global example in AI and digital technology. As part of this commitment, the government has launched the India AI Mission to foster innovation and solidify the country’s position as a global technology leader. In addition, India is making strides in space exploration, with the recent achievement of space docking and ISRO's record of 100 successful rocket launches, positioning the nation as a serious player in the global space race.
The President further highlighted India's innovation-driven growth, noting that the country is emerging as a powerhouse of creativity and technological advancement. The establishment of the National Research Foundation is another step towards fueling India's research and development ecosystem, which promises to bring breakthroughs in various fields.
In a nod to the ongoing push for economic reforms, President Murmu revealed the appointment of the 8th Pay Commission for government employees. This move is expected to address concerns regarding compensation, thereby ensuring fair wages and improved working conditions for public sector workers.
Moreover, the government has introduced a range of financial initiatives aimed at supporting the middle class and small businesses. These include a comprehensive home loan program for middle-income families and credit guarantee schemes for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), which are integral to India’s economic fabric.
Addressing the evolving challenges of the digital world, the President underscored the need for strong cybersecurity measures. Special attention has been given to combating deepfake fraud, which has raised concerns in recent years due to its potential to deceive and manipulate the public. The government has also implemented a digital banking system to enhance financial inclusion and bring digital payment options to remote areas, ensuring that no citizen is left behind in the digital age.
In an effort to further empower women, the government introduced the Drone Didi scheme, which aims to train women in drone technology and provide them with new economic opportunities. This initiative is part of a broader effort to increase women’s participation in the workforce and contribute to the nation’s economic growth.
